Ayu's upcoming single is available in three versions with differing b-sides and DVD contents. The a-sides each have a tie-in: "You were..." is the theme for the NHK drama 「蒼穹の昴」 (soukyuu no subaru, not sure on translation. It's a historical novel about the Chinese Qing Dynasty, according to Wikipedia) and "BALLAD" is the theme for 「ティンカー・ベルと月の石」 (tinkaaberu to tsuki no ishi, "tinkerbell and the moon stone")

On November 18th, the single was post-poned from December 16th to December 29th.

Special Akira Toriyama illustration

Ayu's latest single "Rule/Sparkle" is available in three formats: one with a DVD, one with two "GREEN" remixes as b-sides, and one with two "Days" remixes.

Dragonball creator and legendary mangaka Akira Toriyama created a special illustration to be pictured on the first press discs.

"Rule" will be used to promote the Hollywood adaption of Dragonball internationally, thus this single became the first Ayu single to be released simultaneously internationally via iTunes.

Ayu's 44th single will come in two distinct packages -- Days/GREEN and GREEN/Days -- both of which are available in CD+DVD and CD-only packages. The main difference between the two CDs are the b-sides. Days/GREEN comes with a special 10th Anniversary re-recording of her first number one single "LOVE ~Destiny~" while GREEN/Days comes with a 10th Anniversary version of "TO BE". Additionally, while both DVDs contain the music videos for "Days" and "GREEN", the making of footage included on each track differs.

When it was first announced, the first pressing of the CD+DVD versions was scheduled to have a special picture disc. This has since been changed to a long sleeve similar to the first pressing of Mirrorcle World

Mirrorcle World is Ayu's 10th Anniversary single, coming out exactly 10 years after the original poker face. Mirrorcle World is available in two versions, each with a CD+DVD and CD package. The main difference is the the "10 Anniversary version" of one of her ten-year-old songs and the covers. Each CD+DVD will be available for a limited time in an elongated package.

The actual song "Mirrorcle World" is a revised and extended version of the intro track "Mirror" from her GUILTY album. The PV was shot on location in Paris, France.

The Mirrorcle World single became Ayu's 17th consecutive number one -- 30th total -- and made her the top female artist in terms of number one singles. She has had at least one single hit the top spot each year since her debut in 1998.

"Secret" is the theme for the Chinese film Confessions of Pain. It was originally released on the album of the same name. The film will hit Japanese theaters July 7th, thus the song is being re-released on Ayu's latest single. For those ranting about a remix, it runs a whole 4 seconds longer than the original album version. Congratulations.

"fated" is featured in latest feature film from The Ring's Hideo Nakata, Ghost Story.

Instead of a single music video, "glitter" and "fated" have been combined for a 18 minute short film shot in Hong Kong and co-starring local heartthrob Shawn Yue. The film is also directed by a local talent, Wong Hoi.

glitter/fated was Ayu's 28th single to debut at number one on the Oricon Charts, tieing the record for most number one singles by a female artist.
