Ayu Rocks Asia

Ayu’s first CD single in over a year, glitter/fated, has ruled the Oricon Daily Singles Chart since its debut on the eighteenth, making a number one for the week a strong possibility.

As is done with most major releases, Oricon Style added a special issue to promote the Ayu’s latest, including a PV Digest video from Ayu herself. See the Oricon Special Issue.

Inaddition, Ayu’s official site has updated again with a special section dedicated to the short film included with the single, Kyo Ai ~Distance Love~. So far this section is only in the Japanese mirror.

Fear not, overseas fans. It”s worth noting that the CD+DVD version of glitter/fated is already available in its less expensive Hong Kong format (region 3 DVD). See Yesasia for more information.

Official site revamp and goodies

official site
Ayu’s official site has been revamped for her latest single glitter/fated and the short film Distance Love.

In addition, after the video’s MTV premier, the official site now has not one, but two previews of Distance Love available for download.

In addition, Ayu’s producer Max Matsuura has updated his blog with Ayu-related entries several times since the last update, including some behind-the-scenes shots of glitter/fated‘s cover photoshoot as well as the filming of Distance Love.

Better late than never

“glitter” is on MTV Japan’s schedule for July 10th. It will air during the “HOT PICKS” rotation in the 7:30-9:00 time frame and again at 15:00-16:00. Given that it’s listed as “glitter” instead of “Distance Love”, it will more than likely be a segment of the film.

Distance Love sneak peak

distanceloveAyu shows up periodically in Avex President Max Matsuura’s blog. Today Max treated readers to some gorgeous, high quality stills from Ayu’s new film Distance Love! Check them out at his blog. The film will be included on the CD+DVD version of her new single glitter/fated.

While we’re at it, the entry also highlights her appearance at the Confessions of Pain Japanese premier, the Chinese-language film for which her “Secret” (previous album Secret‘s title track and the upcoming glitter/fated‘s b-side) was the theme.

glitter/fated short film gets a name

Ayu’s official site has updated the tracklisting for her upcoming single again, this time with the title for the short film inspired by the single’s a-sides. is now titled “距愛~Distance Love~” (kyo ai ~Distance Love~; essentially “love over a distance ~Distance Love~”…. or just “Distance Love ~Distance Love~”) The new title is accompanied by a dramatic new still from the film. Check it out in the latest update to see the still!

Ayu’s 41st single glitter/fated is scheduled to hit Japanese shelves 7/18.

Out and About

News on glitter/fated has been slow since the initial film shoot, but Ayu has remained busy in and out of the public eye. After shooting the film in Hong Kong, Ayu returned to Japan as one of the top artists on the bill for Avex’s shareholder meeting. She performed both of her new songs, but not before making an appearance on the red carpet of the Peach John lingerie show to show off her new style.

Perhaps most surprising is a recent photoshoot in Hawaii. According to blogger Akiko who took the photograph, Ayu is currently shooting her 2008 Calendar. More photos and a highlight of the shoot can be found at her blog.

Clarification

Something of an amendment to the last news post: Ayu’s official site has updated its DVD listing for the new single to include “short film (glitter/fated <video clip>)”, meaning the 15 minute film will more than likely be included on the single in its entirety.

2007 Tour Close and New Film

Ayu recently wrapped up her Asia tour in her home town of Fukuoka, but she’s already back in Hong Kong to film a the PV for “glitter”, the new a-side off of her upcoming glitter/fated CD-single.

Much like 2002′s “Voyage”, this PV will actually be a 15 minute film. However, it is unknown whether it will be distributed as an independent short (as was done with the full version of the “Voyage” PV Tsuki ni Shizumu) or if it will simply be included on the DVD as “glitter”.

The film co-stars Hong Kong heartthrob Shawn Yue and will feature the first ever on-screen kiss in an Ayu PV, over which fans are already in a tizzy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

New Single Tie-Ins, a-nation ’07, and Ask Ayu!

Avex has added Ayu’s upcoming single glitter/fated to the mu-mo shop, signifying that it’s now available for pre-order pretty much everywhere.

In addition to the use of “glitter” to promote kiwi, “fated” will be featured in the film 怪談 (kaidan; ghost story). The film’s official site has updated with a new trailer featuring the song (last I checked, Windows Media Player links weren’t working, but Quicktime was functional).

Ayu’s official website has been updated frequently over the last week, mostly with new links. The official a-nation ’07 site is now live with a complete list of artist appearances. Ayu’s schedule is as follows:

  • 8/12 Shizuoka performance
  • 8/18 Kobe performance
  • 8/19 Kobe performance
  • 8/25 Tokyo performance
  • 8/26 Tokyo performance

In addition, the English site has finally been updated with a mirror of ABEST2.com.

Perhaps the most exciting new link is that of the official Hamasaki Ayumi ni kore kikitai!; (I want to ask Ayumi Hamasaki!) form. Since the MY STORY tour, Ayu and her guitarist have made answering fan questions an encore staple–usually with hilarious results. The Secret tour is now taking questions at this form.
