The Show Will Go On; “Days” Dominates

Avex’s cor­po­rate home­page and now her offi­cial site have updated with a spe­cial press release con­firm­ing that Ayu will be open­ing Kouhaku as sched­uled as well as hold­ing her annual COUNTDOWN LIVE con­cert. They stress that it’s at Ayu’s insis­tence and with the doctor’s approval that the show will go on despite her injury.

Days on the Billboard Hot 100

Also in spite of her recent hos­pi­tal visit (or per­haps with a lit­tle help from it), her lat­est sin­gle Days/GREEN fin­ished its first week at num­ber one on the Ori­con Charts, while the song “Days” con­tin­ues to per­form well. It has secured the #1 spot on the Bill­board Japan Hot 100 chart, enter­ing the Global Track Chart at #32.

Ayu Hospitalized; New Song for Honda

Ayu has updated her blog con­firm­ing head­lines that she was hos­pi­tal­ized after a spill injured her right hand. She under­went emer­gency surgery and is now fine, but it will take three weeks to recover. Thus she has had to can­cel upcom­ing per­for­mances includ­ing MUSIC STATION’s end of the year SUPER LIVE.

There is no word on how this will affect her Pre­mium Count­down Live. I just hope she’ll do what­ever it takes to take care of her­self and get bet­ter instead of push­ing through at the expense of her health.

On a lighter career note, Honda has updated its site with a com­mer­cial for one of its new models–featuring Ayu and a brand new song! The previously-unannounced song “Sparkle” is cur­rently being used to pro­mote Honda’s ZEST Spark cars. See the ad at Honda.co.jp. It’s been almost ten years since Ayu’s last major tie-in with Honda “too late” in 1999.

Days/GREEN Daily #1

Ayu’s newest sin­gle Days/GREEN (alter­nately GREEN/Days) has made its debut on the daily Ori­con charts at #1 with an index num­ber of 35116. This is already well-over a 1000 points more than Mir­ror­cle World’s first day index, so it’s off to a great start.

Asia Tour 2008 DVD Update

The offi­cial site has updated to announce that the Asia Tour 2008 DVD will span 3 discs, not 2. It will still have the same amount of mate­r­ial a the 2-disc DVD. Ayu explained in a recent Team Ayu entry that they shot much of the footage in HD, so rather than com­pletely com­pro­mise the qual­ity of the video, she opted to spread it across more discs. I’d per­son­ally like an HD version.…

Billboard Japan Year-End Charts

Bill­board Japan has also posted its year-end charts. For the top 100 album of the year 2008, Ayu ranked at #8 with A COMPLETE ~ALL SINGLES~ and at #14 with GUILTY.

The “Hot 100″ chart uses both sales and air­play; hav­ing released only one sin­gle this year, Ayu’s song “Mir­ror­cle World” did not make this list.

Oricon Year-End Stats

Ori­con Style has announced the top sell­ers of 2008. Despite its Sep­tem­ber release date, her new sin­gle col­lec­tion A COMPLETE ~ALL SINGLES~ cracked the top 10 at #8. GUILTY also made the top 20 at #17.

Ayu’s only sin­gle this year (not includ­ing next week’s GREEN/Days), Mir­ror­cle World came in at #33 on the yearly sin­gles rankings.

Although her indi­vid­ual sales did not break the top 5 on either chart, Ori­con reports that Ayu was still among the top earn­ers of 2008. She is #2 on their Artist Total Sales rank­ing with 7,188 mil­lion yen. She is sec­ond only to Avex’s boy­band jug­ger­naut EXILE.
